Best Monday Prayers to Start a Peaceful, Fun Week

What’s your least favorite day of the week? Sunday Scaries haunt millions of us because we dread that first day! Fear and dread aren’t just unfun. They’re unholy. So here’s a Monday prayer (a few of them) to start your week with meaning, encouragement, and fun!

Why Monday Prayer Matters (Even if You’re Still Half Asleep)

So on the first day, did God create Mondays? Or was it the eighth day?

Then what about Mondays? Other than everyone’s least favorite day of the week?

Jesus said, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.” If we’re supposed to rest, then we’re certainly not supposed to dread. Monday prayers are an excellent way to start your new week with the right mindset.

Firstly, viewing your job and coworkers through a lens of gratitude will improve the way you see them. Likewise, seeking guidance from the Holy Spirit will bring clarity, peace, and energy to your Mondays. Lastly, faith won’t remove the challenges of this “Manic” day. Conversely, it will help you face those challenges with joy, purpose, and resilience.

Morning prayers are an excellent way to start every day with the right mindset. And we need that on Monday more than any other day!

A Short Monday Morning Prayer (Because You’re Probably Already Running Late)

Heavenly Father and Creator of Mondays, thank you for this new week! Please give me the strength and courage to face this day. Protect us all and keep us alert and safe on the roads today! Let the Holy Spirit guide me and remind me to constantly reflect Your love in everything I do. In Jesus’ name, Amen

A Longer Monday Prayer (For When You Actually Have Time to Breathe)

Dear Lord, Aba Father, I know that everything that happens is under Your control. Thank you for creating another day and for letting me live it. Please have the Holy Spirit soften my heart to always be thankful to You and never take any of Your many blessings for granted.

Father, I humbly ask for your guidance during the coming week, especially today. Help me to remember my purpose in the world and keep my thoughts on You. Please fill to my heart and mind with peace. Give me strength as I struggle through this day of going back out into the world and to work.

You are the ultimate source of encouragement. Help me to keep going through challenging situations. Make me a source of light and joy that reflects the happiness of walking with you to everyone who sees me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

How to Make Mondays More Fun (Faith-Based Tips)

Work in these ways to make your Mondays more fun! They might even be more peaceful and bring you a little closer to the \Lord.

  • Start with gratitude
  • Invite the Holy Spirit into your schedule
  • Add one small fun thing to your Monday
  • Make others laugh
  • Pray during your commute
  • Bless your week intentionally

Start with gratitude

Focusing on gratitude always improves your outlook. In doing so, it replaces anxiety with calm and hopelessness with hope. Stress is the worst! It’s unhealthy and counterproductive. Most of all, stress is the opposite of fun.

Stress creates such vivid fears in our minds that the possible seems like reality. The reality is that the things causing stress probably won’t happen. The more you focus on what you fear, the more vivid the images become and the more real it seems.

Counting your blessings isn’t pretending that difficulties don’t exist. Conversely, it merely shifts your focus and improves your outlook. Remembering what you have and what you’ve done makes you mindful of possible solutions. That’s not only less stressful, but it’s also more productive.

Invite the Holy Spirit Into Your Schedule

Much of our Monday stress comes from things that might happen, or that happened in the past. Uncertainty and fear of the unknown also cause stress. Let’s be real, it’s impossible to know enough for certainty.

Anxiety is rarely about anything true. It only makes fears seem like they’ve happened. The Holy Spirit can provide guidance and truth. The Holy Spirit can give you calm and peace, knowing that God has a plan. Use your Monday prayer to invite the Holy Spirit into your day.

Add One Small Fun Thing to Your Monday

Mix something fun into your Mondays. Don’t try anything planned or elaborate. Let yourself enjoy simple pleasures throughout your manic day. At work, come up with small games or competitions to play with your coworkers.

At home, listen to music or podcasts you love while you work. I can’t wait to vacuum, so I can don my noise-cancelling headphones and catch up on Father Mike Schmitz’s Bible in a Year podcast. Speaking of fun, Father Mike is a hoot! Whether at home or in the office, listening to music really works for me. Depending on the situation, I play rocking tunes, music for focus, or sedative sounds of aural artistry. That means calming music.

We had a bag of stress balls that we used to play catch. The foam balls wouldn’t hurt fragile IT equipment. We moved around the room instead of sitting stagnant. We enjoyed the connection of the interactive activity. Most importantly, we focused our thoughts on the throwing and catching of the ball rather than the looming technological apocalypse.

The best fun thing to do is so good, it gets its own subtitle!

Make Others Laugh

Laughter has so many benefits. It might be the easiest and healthiest treat to share with the world. Well, 2nd most. Laughter exercises your core, relieves tension, and shifts focus away from stress. The relief from stress alone improves your immune system and cardiovascular health.

I constantly try to make others laugh. Although most of the time I only make myself laugh, laughing is still better than stressing. My friends Dayne, Ravit, and I are pretty much in constant competition over who is the funniest. That often gives others good laughs, usually at our expense.

Our humor sometimes annoys others, but that’s the chance we’re willing to take.

Share videos and memes. Try to remember jokes you’ve heard. That’s right, I said, “try.” Trying to be funny is an excellent mental exercise. You shift your focus to coming up with something funny and exercise your creativity. That’s way better for your brain than anxiety. A great thing to share for laughs is episodes from my Beer Thursday podcast!

Just don’t do as I do and suffer anxiety that you won’t be able to come up with anything funny.

Pray During Your Commute

I don’t want to be a downer here, but commuting is super stressful. It can also be dangerous! People just don’t realize how dangerous vehicles can be in the wrong hands. (By “wrong hands,” I mostly mean Dallas drivers and Miami drivers. )

Before your commute might be the best time to pray for protection, guidance, and serenity. Pray to reach your destination safely. Pray during your commute to shift your thoughts from anger and aggravation to praise and gratitude. When you arrive at home or work, thank the LORD you made it safely and that you didn’t strangle anyone for switching into your lane without signaling. Or looking.

Bonus Tip: Don’t strangle anyone during your commute so that you can pray the complete prayer of thanks.

Bless Your Week Intentionally

Set your day and week apart for a holy purpose. And for fun! Bless your Monday and the rest of the week.

Invite God into everything you do. That’s an excellent addition to your Monday prayer! Realize that life and work are full of repetitive and mundane tasks. Also, realize that surprise meetings and flat tires can happen at any time. They’re all opportunities to display grace and love to others. It’s all also part of God’s plan, even when it seems out of control. Unlike meetings that could have been emails, God has an agenda.

Blessing your week isn’t pretending that nothing bad will happen. It’s setting an intention for maintaining gratitude, playfulness, and patience. Just like warming up before lifting heavy weights or tickling the ivories with an etude, blessing your week prepares you and sets the tone. Set a tone and an intention to tackle every obstacle, both mundane and unexpected, with light-heartedness and fun.

Bible Verses for Monday Encouragement

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:18 NIV

“for God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self-control.”
2 Timothy 1:7 RSV

“More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.”
Romans 5:3-5 RSV

Don’t Face the Week Alone!

Not only are we social creatures, but the connections and bonds we make with others are also fun. Let your body benefit from the physical benefits of relationships. Likewise, enjoy the fun you can have by working (and suffering!) with others.

Accept the Support of Family

If you come home to a spouse and kids, help them face each day. Have a Monday prayer with them. Be an example of a fearless, fun person who doesn’t just get through the day. Show them how to get the most from the day.
Give thanks for your family, bless them (I even added it to the Mondaybedtime prayer above), and find fun things to do with them.

Be There For Your Friends

I know. I’m the same. I don’t want to admit I need anyone. Tell yourself that you’re there for them.

Studies show that we’re lonelier and ever. Friends don’t let friends be lonely. That sounds awkward, but it’s true. When you’re there for your friends, they’re essentially in the same vicinity as you. Enjoy that connection[*].
Express gratitude for your friends and bless them. Spend quality time with them. When you’re together, confide your problems and concerns in them and listen to them.

Give Time to The Lord

You’ve heard the phrase, “God is my copilot.” It’s a 1945 black-and-white movie about a pilot too old to fly in World War II. Let God be your copilot.
Let the Lord lead you, back you up, keep systems functioning healthily, and take control when you get tired. In fact, we should let the Lord be the pilot.

Take Him with you to work and school. Commutes are probably where we need Him the most. Start and finish your days with prayer. Spend time in scripture, and pray throughout the day. I gave you several prayers above to sincerely repeat throughout your day.

God wants to spend time with you, so let Him!
